What a momentous this week has been. History was made in Washington as the media went into a news frenzy as the first black President was inaugurated in freezing temperatures.
At home the powers that be at Man City showed everybody how you don't always get what you want even if you have a bottomless pit of a bank account. What troubles me most about this affair is the fact that the negotiation team from Man City didn't include Mark Hughes or any of his management team...............so if they had persuaded Milan to part with the mercurial Brazilian he would have arrived at Eastlands without any face to face discussions with his new boss? Still the Light Blues can console themselves with the signing of Bellamy the Sulk, who had no qualms in walking out on his erstwhile employers, for Football reasons of course, to significantly bolster his bank account with his move up the M6.......................I'm afraid players like that make me sick.
Sad news this week from Peterborough as one of their most ardent fans collapsed and died watching his favourites play the Franchise Dons. Condolences to his family as it is at times like this when Football rivalries are rightly put to one side.
There have been no more signings from Larry the Loan Arranger this week (of course by the time you read this he will probably have rectified that!) although he has had a young American striker on trial who impressed with a hat trick for the reserves. Just hope he brings another Goalie on board before the end of the transfer window. He's been quite bullish this week stating in the press that he still believes we can secure an automatic promotion spot. I've got to say I admire his optimism or confidence but it seems a tall order to me but dafter things have happened.
Looking forward to the match on Saturday as there should be a good atmosphere with the arrival of the Posh at ER. They will bring a healthy number of fans, hopefully "Mr Posh" will be there, and given they are one of the teams we need to reel in if Larry's prediction is to come true I fully expect the team to be well "up for it" especially with my new hero Bam Bam Naylor leading from the front. The fixture is inevitably given extra spice given the parentage of the Posh manager Darren Ferguson and I'm sure he together with Barry Fry, that amiable, reserved eloquent man of Football, will get a white hot reception when they poke their noses out of the tunnel on Saturday.
Predictions for the game? Well both the Happy Chocker and I have tended to steer away from attempting to 2nd guess the outcome of games lately but despite that I can feel another clean sheet coming and another two goals for the mighty whites..........................and that will put them right back in the promotion mix.
Finally best wishes to the exiled whites fans from the 606 message board who will be at ER this Saturday from places as far a field as Chicago, Germany, Ireland, Cyprus and Wittering!!!! to name but a few & hope you all enjoy a drunken celebration on Saturday night!
