Wycombe Wanderers v Leeds United: Preview

It must be a new record......Bryan Gunn gets the bullet after only 6 days of the new season. Now I could understand if the chairmen had sacked him in a post match rage at 5pm last Saturday after their abysmal 7:1 reverse against Colchester but I'm a tad surprised that he's been fired after steadying the ship with a 4:0 away win in the Carling cup. Such is life on planet football. Got me thinking though who's next? Phil Brown to be cast off by the codheads? Sparky Hughes to be paid off at MiddleEastlands? or Benitez to be Yanked off at Liverpool. Wouldn't be surprised if one, if not all, of these scenarios come true before we are nicely into the festive season!

Tomorrow we travel to Buckinghamshire to play Wycombe Wanderers who were only promoted to the Football League in 1993. In their reletavely short time in the Football league they have reached both the FA Cup (2001) and League Cup (2007) semi finals in doing so earning themselves an enviable reputation as a cup team. So Wycombe's recent record in those cups is far better than the mighty whites! Of course whilst Wycombe were in dreamland pushing Liverpool all the way in a 2:1 FA Cup semi final defeat we were living our own dream that year as we fell at the Champions League semi final stage and challenged for the premiership title.
How times change!

Hopefully Mr Beckford will be back tomorrow leading the line after his midweek "injury" although I'm not sure I want him to score any more goals until the 1st Sept and the closing of the transfer window. His absence at Darlo re-ignited the "is he going debate" which Larry moved quickly to deny. Knowing our luck he'll get transferred at a minute to midnight on the 31st August leaving us no time to get a replacement.

After two stuttering display's in the first two games I will be hoping for a more assured performance from the Whites tomorrow on their, and mine, first ever visit to Adams Park.
Having shipped 7 goals this week the Chairboys should be vulnerable but with ex Leeds Centre Back, Duberry, bolstering the defence it should prove for an interesting afternoon. I'm sure the away fans won't possibly sing "There's only one Jonny Woodgate" would they?

The Happy Chocker, Quiet One and myself are going by Hull trains so we should have a nice healthy debate with the codheads on their way to Chelski for their lunchtime kick off in the Prem. I'm planning to do a bit of tweeting during the day and post some pics and vids as the day goes on if I can get the technology to work so keep an eye out for that.
Finally a score prediction...........3:1 Leeds, what else?

The position of football managers is indeed a fragile one! Makes you wonder what the point was in the Norwich board backing Gunn at the point of relegation last season, then through the summer only to turn round and do this after a few days of the new season.

After a drubbing like the one on Saturday the board have behaved like reactionary supporters, but aren't they supposed to be the ones with the calm heads?

I just think it is madness!!

Anyway enjoy the day tomorrow, keep up the good work the match reports always informative and entertaining.

Prediction: Wycombe 1-2 Leeds
